European Invitation for CAB

In support of its membership of over 120 companies the Council for Aluminium in Building is an active member of many of the UK and European standards committees and trade bodies to ensure aluminium is well represented.

David Earle, CAB Technical Officer expalins, ‘We are delighted to announce that, at their invitation, CAB has joined the prestigious Federation of European Window and Curtain Walling Manufacturers Associations (FAECF). The organisation is part of Eurowindoor, an umbrella organisation comprising Aluminium, Glazing, Plastic and Timber fenestration organisations that lobbies at International and European levels on standardisation and reduction in bureaucracy matters. This is a logical extension of our involvement with the European Aluminium Association and I will be representing our members' interests on their committees.’

David goes on to say, ‘The review of the Construction Products Directive, the increasing development of harmonised standards and the growing interest throughout Europe in environmental matters means that UK industry must have a strong voice on the relevant and influential lobbying bodies to ensure our members' views are heard and understood.’

With this increase in responsibility and the support desk also seeing a steady increase in activity, with an average of 25% of calls being received from architects and specifiers requesting technical and sourcing guidance, CAB has decided to increase its staffing levels. To meet these growing demands for technical support and representation, whilst maintaining and enhancing the service to its growing membership, the CAB Board has decided to increase the technical staff by a further member.

CAB membership offers substantial support to businesses involved in the supply chain by offering technical feedback on the latest standards and regulations in the UK and Europe and probably most important, credibility in the sector.
