Carliol
Square, named after a 13th century, rich, merchant family, is the prestige
location for a stunning new office building in Newcastle-upon-Tyne with
its most impressive façade created using Metal Technologys
architectural aluminium glazing. Direct Developments led the project
team including Chris Fairley Architects, Metnor Construction and fabricators
AC Yule for client St Margarets Trust.
Carliol Central is a four storey commercial development and its unusual
wedge shape is designed to offer a stand-alone, convenient workplace
which has direct access to the Tyne Bridge and the A1. Metal Technologys
facetted System 17 provides the highly visible attractive façade
with its strong horizontal focus created through the use of its distinctive
aerofoil covercap.
The dramatic corner detail was created by welding specially modified
aerofoil caps in order to accommodate the unusual shape of the building.
Appearing like a floating ship alongside the motorway, this dramatic
building looks good in any weather, with its grey tinted solar control
glass and grey aluminium cladding.
Document L compliant System 17 profiles are specifically designed to
give limitless flexibility to architects. Designed on a stick system,
a wide range of caps ensures that the external projections suit the
character and restrictions of the building. Metal Technology has a wide
portfolio of commercial, educational, health and leisure projects, demonstrating
its ability to offer glazing solutions to clients and architects for
both standard and complex facades. Complete details of projects and
