Lancashire
Double Glazing Completes Move to 60,000 Square Foot Manufacturing Facility
Lancashire Double Glazing, one of the North West's
largest window system design, fabrication and installation companies,
and part of The LDG Group, has just announced the completion of the
company's move to a new 60,000 square foot manufacturing facility in
the city of Preston.
The relocation project, which was years in planning and the demolition
on a grand scale included, ovens ripped out, tonnes of cabling removed
and walls taken out to get new equipment into the new Lancashire Double
Glazing (LDG) site base which was the former Ashworth's Pies factory,
on Havelock Street, Plungington close to the centre of Preston. The
budget for the relocation ran into hundreds of thousands of pounds.
In addition to the relocation of existing equipment, a further investment
of over £390,000 was made in two new high-tech pieces of equipment
installed in the new manufacturing Aluminium line along with further
significant investments in a new computer system, software and a brand
new website.
The former Ashworth's building is now a state of the art 60,000 sq ft
factory complete with four lines manufacturing UPVC and Aluminium window
frames, doors, curtain walling, including Auto Entry systems , as well
as the company's offices to service the company's expanding consumer
and trade customer base.
Spokesman Albert Orr said the firm had now successfully completed the
move from Lund Street, in Preston city centre and all manufacturing
processes, managerial and office administration disciplines had been
successfully relocated to Havelock Street.
He said: 'We have been based across four sites with 2 manufacturing
plants in Preston as well as offices in Wigan and Blackpool, and this
gives us the chance to bring head office and all our manufacturing,
under one roof. The company has been in the industry for more than 20
years and we are always looking to expand and move forward. We hope
that this move will help us to provide the ultimate service for the
customer, up-to-date and improved products, as well as facilities to
give a better turnaround on manufacturing Aluminium and UPVC products.'
The LGD Group was established in 1994 following the Purchase of Raymond
Wood Thermalight Windows which successfully merged the two companies
which has successfully traded in aluminum windows and doors since 1978
and being able to offer both the retail and commercial customers a wider
range of products. The company, which employs 200 people in Preston,
snapped up the building after Ashworth's went into administration last
summer and will be renting out its Lund Street base to smart storage.
Its UPVC manufacturing, which operates under the Lancashire Double Glazing
Raymond Wood Ltd name and aluminium manufacturing operations, is now
trading as LDG Contracts, the commercial arm of the group. The company
moved the manufacturing of its commercial aluminium products into the
new facility in September 2006.
Lancashire Double Glazing also acquired the Wigan-based Majestic Conservatories
and Windows Company, which brought its manufacturing operations to Preston.
