Horizontal Sliding Window and Door Launched by Kawneer

A window that maximises ventilation while minimising the risk of self harming has been developed for hospitals by architectural aluminium systems supplier Kawneer.

Using a proven design from its sister company in Holland, Kawneer's AA®3110 horizontal sliding window has anti-ligature features such as a wraparound gasket that breaks into harmless pieces when there is an attempt to remove it, together with a streamlined handle that cannot be used as a ligature point.

The AA®3110 window is designed to ensure that the safety of the user is paramount, with easy to operate functions and key lockable restrictions in compliance with HTM 55 and BS 8213 regulations.

As well as a concealed mechanism that enables the window to be locked open at 100mm, other safety features include anti-lift blocks so the sliding vents cannot be removed once they are installed, and options for glazing up to 33mm which allows for specialist safety or security glass.

The AA®3110 is an example of Kawneer's recognition that special projects need special support. They have therefore set up a dedicated support team who can advise on hospital requirements to ensure the best solution for the most demanding applications.

Available in a variety of sizes with a maximum sliding vent weight of 200kgs and with options for operation from inside or outside, making it ideal for balcony environments, the AA®3110 window also features a dual colour option.

Designed to be pressure equalised and fully drained, Kawneer's AA®3110 window also features single or double sliding options, three-or four-pane options, a stainless steel track with adjustable stainless steel wheels allowing for smooth and robust operation, and a ventilator that adjusts itself according to the wind pressure, all ensuring occupant comfort.
