Reynaers Maximise the Light in a Grand Design

Reynaers is experiencing the 'Grand Designs effect' after featuring in the popular Channel 4 programme in January. A selection of the company’s windows played a key part in creating a highly unusual home for property developer, Henry Chopping.

Henry was keen to build a unique home, specifically designed to his own tastes but as his chosen plot was behind a listed wall in the heart of Oxford, strict planning conditions meant the house could be no more than one storey high. The resultant design, which made the most of the plot and the available light, was a series of glass-fronted decagons.

With windows clearly playing a crucial role in the design of the property and determined to use only the best materials, Henry approached Reynaers, via local fabricator, Hazlemere Windows to supply the curtain walling (CW50), windows (ECO) and doors (CS68).

'I knew from experience that Reynaers products were high quality and wanted to go for consistency by using the same supplier for all the glass' he explained. 'Admittedly I usually think of Reynaers as being utilised in a commercial setting but I’m happy that the design ensures that this one definitely looks like a home – albeit a highly unusual one!'

'It proved an excellent opportunity for us. Not only was it prime-time TV exposure but the unique nature of the project enabled us to demonstrate that, whatever the design, we can work with architects to deliver a high quality solution.'
