Technal
Launches MX Acoustic - New Curtain Wall Option
Architectural aluminium systems specialist, Technal,
has launched MX Acoustic - a new design option for its MX curtain walling
range, to help architects and specifiers satisfy more demanding acoustic
requirements.
MX
Acoustic has been developed as an option for MX Visible Grid and MX
Trame Horizontale curtain walling, for applications where additional
acoustic performance is required, such as hospitals, hotels, student
accommodation, city centre apartments and buildings near airports and
railway lines.
The system uses a 32mm to 42mm infill to achieve airborne sound reduction
and reduce the impact of external noise pollution. It is available as
both a flat façade or faceted up to 20° for the grid curtain
walling and a facet of up to 10° for MX Trame Horizontale, which
expresses the horizontal profiles.
Structurally bonded top hung concealed vents can also be supplied for
MX Acoustic, and the system is fully compatible with Technal's PXi door
system and FXi casement windows.
In rigorous tests in accordance with BS EN 13830 for curtain walling,
MX Acoustic Grid achieved 1200Pa for static water tightness, 2400Pa
for wind resistance and level A4 for air permeability.
Technal says that its MX curtain walling suite is believed to be the
first in the UK to offer such a wide range of design options from a
single grid system - giving specifiers the benefit of consistent sight
lines and interfaces, and simplified specification, fabrication and
installation for cost efficiency and reductions in time on site.
Options in the range include low to high rise curtain walling, visible
grid, faceted, structural sealant, beaded and sloped glazing, and MX
Trame, which allows specifiers to highlight the vertical or horizontal
profiles across the building envelope with projecting aerofoil caps.
The MX system has already been used extensively in the UK and internationally
since its launch, and offers enhanced thermal performance, consistent
quality, concealed vents in a variety of configurations and a choice
of depths to meet individual project requirements.
