Tall Order for Cotswold

High performance Friction Stays from Cotswold have been specified for top hung curtain wall aluminium windows in the tallest residential development in Malaysia. Kuala Lumpur's new Troika development was designed by Foster and Partners and consists of three towers of 38, 44 and 50 storeys high. The scheme's twisting shape is precisely aligned to maximise prevailing views of the world-famous Petronas Towers and City Park.

Troika's high performance aluminium windows were fabricated by Jepsum Aluminium, one of Malaysia's leading specialists in aluminium and glazed architectural facades. Its production facility in Selangor Darul Ehsan is fully equipped with precision aluminium manufacturing equipment and the company has been involved in supplying some of the country's landmark buildings.

Cotswold Heavy Duty and Sinidex Handed Stays were supplied for Troika through Cotswold's Malaysian distributor, Sri Ribuan Industries and its subsidiary Constyle Architectural Products Sdn Bhd. Nelson Wong, Sri Ribuan's MD, worked closely with Foster and Partners and Connell Wagner, the façade engineering consultant, to secure the prestigious contract for Cotswold.

‘This challenging project demanded a highly reliable and durable window hinge solution,’ says Nelson Wong. ‘Cotswold's high quality hardware met the specification in terms of both quality and performance and are backed by the company's excellent support and warranty.’ The HD and Sinidex friction stays particularly suit the local window and curtain walling applications, which are mainly aluminium, and are designed to withstand the severe weather conditions often experienced throughout the region.

Three sizes of top-hung hinge from Cotswold's Heavy Duty (HD) range have been installed in the Troika - the 10’ (259mm), 16’ (412mm) and 22’ (558mm). Specifically designed to withstand the rigours of large commercial applications, the HD range is manufactured from austhentic stainless steel to BS 7412 for maximum longevity, even in the most corrosive environments - making it ideal for a multi-storey project like the Troika in Malaysia's largest city. HD hinges offer smooth and balanced operation during opening and closing and are tested to 50,000 cycles.

For added flexibility, the stays can be restricted to 90 degree, self-balancing or restricted opening as required and are easy to fit with an adjustable friction mechanism. As an added aesthetic benefit, the effective weather sealing and draught proofing is fully concealed once fitted.

Smaller top-hung windows at the Troika have been fitted with 8 inch Handed Stays (HS) from Cotswold's Sinidex range. The HS 100 offers improved security and weather sealing through the use of a nylon reduced friction end cap. The high-grade stainless steel stays are designed to ensure smooth closure and high performance operation for window applications of all sizes up to 1200 x 1500mm.
