Wicona Projects Expands Technical Team for Specialist Façades

Façade specialist, Wicona Projects, has expanded its technical team for the UK and Ireland with three new appointments.

The expansion is Wicona's response to the increase in demand for more complex glazing solutions and unitised façades, which apply the principles of off-site construction to the building envelope - improving quality and safety, and reducing programme times for bespoke applications, challenging projects and restricted sites.

Karlheinz Beck has been appointed Technical Manager for Wicona Projects, heading up the technical team and overseeing the design and development of specialist façade solutions for fast track and more bespoke projects.

He will work with architects and contractors on the development of highly engineered façade designs, and will provide design, technical input and resources at every stage, from initial concepts, specification and detailing, to fabrication, installation and testing. Karlheinz has previously worked for Wicona in Germany where he was responsible for the technical development of special projects.

Alain Ryczek and Oliver Schmutz have been appointed Project Technicians, assisting in the design and development of façade solutions, including profile design, 3D technical drawings, fabrication detailing, and cost calculations for estimating.

Alain joins Wicona from its sister brand, Technal, and prior to that he specialised in product development for another Hydro Building Systems brand, Architectural Systems, based in France.

Oliver brings five years' invaluable experience working as a technician for a Wicona façade fabricator in Switzerland to his new role.

Wicona Projects says that it is the first façade specialist in the UK to oversee the full package of services for unitised curtain walling and highly engineered glazing solutions, from concept design to off-site manufacture, site installation, testing and handover.

The unitised approach is a highly efficient solution for sites with restricted access, it reduces reliance on scaffolding and can cut time on site by up to 70 per cent, allowing a weather tight envelope to be completed for earlier fitting out.
